I enjoy a good electronic gadget! I don't like them for the sale of liking them, and if I can't see the purpose of a good bit of technology, then it is not a good bit of technology.

The emergence of the iPhone was a good example. The phone on its own was just another phone, however when you add the right applications & learn to use them properly, suddenly the iPhone served a purpose. The turning point with the iPhone for me was finding an application that allowed me to set up interval training sessions.

Somewhere to comment on Channel 10's coverage of Avon Descent 2011

I'm doing my first (if you exclude a scare in 2007) Walyunga to Amiens run on Saturday arvo. Any tips for a scared Ski Girl? :-)

The 2011 Geegelup cup will be raced again in Bridgetown on the 27th and 28th of August. The river is currently flowing very nicely so if you have not had enough of the moving water come down and enjoy a great weekend. This event is also open to craft with rudders. All information can be found on the Wildwater website.

Hello Paddlers,

On Sunday I rode my bike to Moondyne rapid in the Avon Valley and took pictures of just about every paddler, which I'm happy to provide to everyone at no charge.

Well I THOUGHT I could put articles up on RBP but I have failed at my attempt to get this one to actually show - hopefully this will take you to it:

This feature is aimed at competitors who want to make good progress through the field on Day 1. The first grids away are stronger paddlers who get the advantage of a clear river to race away. Those further back will face a crowded river, particularly in the first hour or two down to Katrine Bridge.

If you are racing to try and get your best time, here are some suggestions for dealing with the sea of craft that may lie ahead of you in the early stages (and indeed in other spots too, like the Ti Trees and the start of Day 2). Additional contributions are as usual invited!

So what now? On its own there may not be enough rain to get the Avon flowing, and besides, even if it did, no experienced paddler thinks that the first major flow on a river like the Avon is particularly safe.

I had two favourite sessions after a blast of rain.

Whats your favourite section of the valley?

Once the water is actually flowing, the training sessions before the big race are the most enjoyable. You take your own time to get through and you just soak up the experience.
My favourite section is Emu Falls (Scorpions tail - Washing Machine)
