Ocean paddling coaches.

Like everyone I want to improve every aspect of my paddling. I have seen the websites were you can submit videos for criticism and improvement ideas but my preference is coaching or mentoring.

Does anyone know of Ocean Paddling coaches, do they even exist in WA? If they do exists will any of them come south of the river.

What does everyone here do to improve their paddling?

Cheers
Gav

Ocean Paddling Coaches

Hi Gavin,
Apologies it has been a while since your initial post - however just wanted to include my coaching business in this post.

The business is Precision Paddling and we have been operating since 2006 and have coached quite literally hundreds of clients in that time.
The business was started while I was completing my final studies in Sport Science and Phys Ed at UWA. Paddling for me started in Sprint paddling after being selected in a TID program in 1997, and having trained as a WAIS paddler for a number of years have really developed a strong focus on the Forward Stroke and the intricacies of the stroke. So whether you are an ocean, Avon or Flatwater paddler - the forward stroke is the foundation to your paddling.

We occasionally run technique clinics where Australia Team Paddler, Jesse Phillips, assists me with the running of these sessions.

Sessions are run in Perth, Bunbury and Busselton for anyone who is interested.

You can check out all of our services at www.precisionpaddling.com.au or feel free to give me a call on 0400 723 359.

All the best,
Ty Stedman

Cheers

Cheers everyone, I ended up contacting Guy because the training sessions Ash does are almost 100kms north of where I live. Guy contacted me and said he was keen to train me but I haven't heard anything from him in almost a week.

I'm still keen to find a coach who's happy to come to me though lol.

The Westcoast training group have some outstanding paddlers and I'm looking forward to paddling with these guys more often in the future but I think I will also benefit from formal teaching you might say.

I'm very keen to learn the finer points of paddling because i think i can squeez out an extra few kms per hour when I'm thought how everything is supposed to be done.

Cheers
Gav

of course

Yes, of course Guy. It's certainly worth getting the technique going early on.

What does everyone here do to improve their paddling?

1- join a club then talk to other helpful people

2- ask someone who coaches.
eg http://www.precisionpaddling.com.au/

First comment is that paddling technique is ultimately the same, whether sprint/ocean/downriver/marathon. Learn proper technique first then add in idiosyncrasies later.

Great vid

Thanks Fiasco, the best look I have had of my technique so far, hopefully get someone who knows what they are talking about to pull it to pieces. great fun really enjoyed the paddle. By the way 30 of 40 hits you have so far are from me !

Cut run

Great work Fiasco. I was fortunate enough to sit in the back of Bin paddling's XT double over the Xmas break and had a ball. The cut run is the best stretch of water I have paddled and to top it off you get the great hospitality of the MOCAS.
