Boat Swapping

Come on people, Lets not cover up what happened at the Avon Descent this year.
The great boat swapping scandal should be exposed and bought to light in this very forum. [Moderator: See comment below]

Over the next few days expect several competitors to be identified for craft swappping. [Moderator: I'm leaving the topic here but the site will not be allowing such content]

If you have evidence of boat swapping over the weekend, bring it forward.

Outcome RE Boat Swapping

2 weeks later and I'm none the wiser about the Boat Swapping issue. I heard that race organisers were inquiring into it. There's not a clear consensus among our contributors about the rules, either for individuals or for teams.

I'd like organisers to give a simple clarification whether the results posted after the race are to stand. I'd also like them to take some feedback on the race as they have done in previous years. I'll help them out with a new Forum Topic to do just that!

Swapping: I vote ICF

I agree with Juffy's statement on the rules here

This is such a hot issue, I think the ICF rule should be copied through, or directly referenced in the AD rules.

Why bother with rules if they will not be enforced? Maybe next year I'll paddle blind drunk and see if they enforce the blood alcohol rule.

Also, if nothing is done to clarify this next year, which appears likely, remember to protest in the required time frame, with the required evidence. At least that way, the Rules Committee will have to make a decision, then future ruling could be based on past precedence.

Best idea ever

Maybe next year I'll paddle blind drunk and see if they enforce the blood alcohol rule.

Wanna paddle a double with me? We could stash a keg in the middle of a 515 and sing sea shanties all the way down the river. :D

The winner is?

Talk of kegs brings me back to the big water-level betting. Dare I ask who was closest?

It would make that last 30km's go faster.

Drinking games, a scull for every powerboat that overtook you. It would have been a sober paddle this year.

No consensus?

I haven't seen anyone quibble my interpretation of the ICF Marathon Rules over in this thread. The problem is the rules aren't advertised, and certainly aren't enforced.

What RBP will and won't be allowing

I've seen online sites turn nasty before, and won't let that happen to RBP. Some things should be dealt with between the parties directly, or via the organisers of the event. So let's be clear before it happens:

1. Anyone using this site to make accusations about someone else (however accurate) will have the comment moderated as soon as we are alerted, and possibly the user account blocked.

2. Same for anyone make accusations about the conduct of a commercial enterprise.

In both cases we have a responsibility as the hosting forum to act. I've seen this escalate into all-out slander and abuse, and it does nothing for anyone and potentially will mean the end of comments on this site.

Faz - yes bring it forward. But not on here.

Got drama?

Would you like a rational discussion on this topic Faz, or should we just grab our pitchforks and start burning paddles in front gardens? Cos, you know, we haven't had a decent lynching in these here parts since that blighter Syd got done for shuffling his boat down a rapid....or something. Yee haw.

Rookie - I don't see that the rules need to be changed, I've already posted the explicit rule that says "Thou shalt not swappeth boats". The problem is that the rules aren't being enforced.

The question that I think needs to be answered (particularly by you, Faz) is what result do you want? What penalty for the dirty low-down boat-swapping scum would make you happy? There's no penalty listed in the rules, other than "Accepting illegal assistance" which is a massive 5 minute penalty, and the generic "Doing something else bad" with a penalty at the discretion of the jury.

Vote to clarify/change rules?

Hey Faz ... we all know boat swapping occurred. Evidence and naming people achieves little now. Protest time finished a long time ago.

A more proactive approach would be to get backing (say via signed petition), then approach those responsible for the rules.

RBP admin ... what do you think about setting up an on-line voting system and live tally as a start?

boat swapping

maybe the guys who won money by means of boat swapping (cheating) would by now feel the guilt and donate there winnings to a charitable organisation and not try to get away with it again
