Hi all
Maybe we should start a new poll?
Who is pulling out?
or
Predict the % of brave souls who will be bombarded with the scorn of their mates for pulling the pin!
I put the feelers out there on that 1 for myself and copped a huge spray!!!
Good Luck
C ya @ the start!!
we're out
Made the decision last night to pull out.
Back next year though (global warming permitting :-)) in Dave Boldy's old double Avon 3.
At least in the Avon 3 we will (hopefully) get an earlier grid position!
Good luck to all those that do compete, I will be on the banks cheering you on (which, after 10 Avon Descents, viewing from the sidelines will be a whole new experience - I might get to see what it is that the support crew has been complaining about all these years)
515 #951
Gone
I'm out. Just dont want to trash my gear.
Looking for accomodation
Got a free cup of harden-the-f*@%-up from pepperman at scrutineering - he wasn't dishing it out, but his enthusiasm for just getting in there and racing rubbed off - I am now going to trash my beautiful new K1 on an unforgiving/uncaring trickle!
But my free accom has evaporated (like the Avon!) - if anyone has pulled out and has accom they want to cancel - I need two singles for myself and my dad. Any leads would be appreciated :)
Looking for accom
Cancelled one of two rooms at Freemasons on Friday. You might be lucky although i imagine the town is freeing up quickly.
Accom
Thanks maacski - I think I've got sumthin now :)
Next year
I made the call to pull out pre-scrutineering, though I had paid up in a rush of blood to the head when the first rains came through.
Now looking on my $220 as a donation to the Avon Descent foundation for knackered wrists and rolled ankles.
A lack of training and I guess the willpower to struggle through with no water made up my mind.
Just been speaking to someone at my work who's partner last did the race in 2006 and chose this year to try again. Poor bugger.
Best of luck to all the brave souls of 2010. Roll on 2011.
New goals
Our team is starting. We've revised our goals for participating. We aim to make the finish without being cut-off, and that's it. Being a team, we have the luxury of swapping for a fresh paddler 4 times during the day. Would not be up to the task solo this year.
I have also bet a carton of the beer of choice that we will beat another team of similar ability, to liven things up a bit during the weekend.
new goals
hey bolders , since you didnt want to join my team we will challenge yours for that carton, is it a dual?
Sensible option
I took the sensible option and never entered in the first place - haven't done enough training for a high-water year, never mind a portage-slog.
Come to think of it, I'm currently in better shape for running 133km than paddling it.
Pilbara Paddler going walk about!
Unfortunately I'm pulling out. Sold my new PRS and will probably be seen walking around, nice and dry supporting those brave souls who like the idea of cross country kayaking.
The idea of tearing up my boat and myself is not for me. Call me soft!
To give those novices and/or people who don't know me a gauge of experience I've done three avons finishing in the top third of my class each time.
And I really want to hear about the 515 Midnight Express!
Going walk about
Heh Pilbara, any chance of meeting me halfway to Katrine and taking over? If not, I expect you to be waiting for me at Katrine with a nice cold beer cause it will probably be mid afternoon by the time I get there.
Go Mudcrab!
Go Mudcrab Go! Good luck, don't damage anything too important (I'm thinking of the body not the boat here). Thinking of you all - I'm going to take Ski-girl's long running advice and go surfing instead...
