Precision Paddling

When I first paddled with Ty several years ago I thought that he had a refreshing attitude towards paddling.

Firstly, he was prepared to step up & help me out at short notice as my long term doubles partner had developed a back problem & pulled out. Secondly, he was able to learn & adapt brilliantly. For a crew that had only paddled together a couple of times, we went OK.

He was in the early stages of developing the business concept of 'Precision Paddling', and was a long way ahead of the field, as the idea of professional coaching services in paddling was only an emerging industry. While swimming had always set the precedent for coaching services, a few coaches had dabbled at the edge of the idea with moderate success.

I'm very impressed with the way that things are progressing for Precision Paddling. Ty has taken his skills to the wide range of paddling disciplines very well, and is in the process of supporting a range of paddlers at through sponsorship at the same time.

The best way to appreciate the services of Precision Paddling is by enrolling in a session or two, and I can highly recommend this as a New Year resolution (a bit like taking a golf lesson or two).

The web site shows the width of Ty's services, and there is little for the novices to learn from the content, and this has to be the weakness of the approach. In order to gain benefit you have to enrol. OK, it's a commercial world out there, and that's how things work. Ty: How about posting a video taster of some of your sessions? It may be a great way of getting you services to market.

In my opinion, there is room for major growth in the on-line, mass coaching approach to paddling. A service that provides advice to paddlers as they need it, mixed up with some good sound programs. There may also be room for analysis services for paddling technique. From what I've seen of Ty's ability to give things a go, I'd suggest that he'd do it well if he gave it a go. I'll be posting some comments on local paddlers videos here over time. Send us a link to your video (email it to us) & if appropriate, I'll post it with some comment.

I've used Ty a couple of times now and have found his sessions great.
The one on one coaching is invaluable.
Unfortunately I've been off the water for a bit but I definately will give him a buzz soon!

Precision Paddling

Hi WP, thanks for the kind words.

It has taken me a few weeks to address your suggestions and I am happy to say that I can now offer Mail-in Technique Feedback. I have just posted some info on the Services page of the precisionpaddling.com.au website. Something new that we will be offering in 2010 are online training programs leading up to the Avon. We have, for a few years now, written individual programs for competitors and top 10 place finishers in the Avon and also for competitors working towards Molokai.
This year we are providing more cost-effective online programs which registrants will be able to access each month via a password emailed to them. The first program due for Feb is free to anyone registering their interest.
More details are also available on the services page of the website.

Great to see so many paddlers using your service.

Cheers,
Ty
