Performance or just fun, personal sporting GPS is here to stay

I bought my first Garmin in 2006. It was a Forerunner 301, with a heart rate monitor. I'm really into maps, aerial images etc and I had started to understand that heart rate monitoring was important to training. Soon I was delighted to be watching my speed on the water, point-to-point times and what my heart was up to.

The computer graphing of speed & HR for training and racing has given me an insight into my physical performance but the fun bit has been the ability to show where I've been. A few files gathered from the archives cover the whole swan-avon system, the Moore river, bits of ocean and some Eastern States locations. There is a lot missing from the years of traveling & sailing but here is a start. These .kml's open in GoogleEarth.

My next challenge is to fill in the rest of the waterways about the place. Unless someone already has them, I am keen to cover the Canning/Helena/Murray/collie rivets & Woorooloo brook. I may skip the whole Blackwood adventure for now.

maybe RBP's out there have some interesting tracks

gps fun

Welcome Nang.
Eventually you build up a map of coverage of your journeys.

You can use the Garmin softwaare- Training Center or through the Garmin Connect. On mac there is Ascent, a third party program, a bit more elegant than the Trainng Center. Export or save your file as a .kml. Fairly small file size and easily share-able.

Surely riding a flooded river down is a tad scary? Getting Stuck gives me images of being pinned under swirling uncontrollable brown waters.

love my GPS

Firstly, this is my first post after lurking for a while. I really like this forum. But I'd rather be paddling . . .

I recently bought a new Garmin handheld after the water proofing failed on my old one on a trip to Penguin Island. I haven't worked out the best way to mount it but I am playing around with a few things at present.

I was fascinated to see your gps tracks uploaded to Google earth. I have just figured out how to do it while typing this post. I have an interesting track on Moore River that I just saved to Google Earth but I can't see any way to share it on the forum. We put in at Lancelin bridge 4 days after the massive storm in March 2010 (remember the hail damage?) and rode the flood down. Great fun but lots of portage and getting stuck.
